Everything You Want to Know About France and More...

A Chateau, Pink City, Art in France and more… January Newsletter

Bonjour tout le monde!

I’ll start by wishing you a Happy New year. I may have already done it once before but here in France it’s generally a greeting you will hear right up until the end of the January!

Here at TGLF we’re busy planning our editorial schedule and we’ve got some wonderful features coming up. We hope you’re going to love what we’ve got planned and we’re starting with one story that already is one of my favourites…

Top 5 features this week

1. The Chateau de Gudanes – an abandoned and unloved chateau in the south of France seen on the internet by a family in Australia who travelled 7000 miles in a day to buy it and are now restoring it. One of the biggest and most beautiful projects we’ve ever seen…
2. An artist inspired by the good life in France – Perry Taylor’s drawings are wonderfully quirky and offer an affectionate look at daily life in rural France (that’s one of his drawings above: “The Mushroom Hunters”). Art lovers will also enjoy reading about Angoulême which hosts a fabulous cartoon festival at the end of January.
3. The violet festival of Toulouse the perfect Valentine’s Day destination in France says our wonderful new writer/photographer Jane Gifford. She also went Tower spotting in Toulouse and writes about the history of this beautiful and ancient city with its shades of pink and blue
4. The Misty Elegance of the ArdennesBob Lyons tells us why he loves this very beautiful north east corner of France…
5. 70th Anniverseary of D-Day – Normandy events schedule, the region of Normandy is gearing up for this important anniversary date in 2014 with new exhibitions, museums, displays, concerts and lots more…

Don’t miss

1. French flea market vintage, an expert’s guide to the famous flea markets in  France…
2. Paris tour guide Linda visits the charming Museum of Romantic Life (where you’ll find one of our top ten favourite secret cafés of Paris)…
3. The Nice Carnival – one of the biggest and oldest carnivals in the world…

Top 4 Practical Features:

1. Keeping in touch for less from France – advice on how to cut costs on your phone and internet use from France…
2. Installing electricity in France, don’t let old electrics put you off buying an old property says our expert Paul Wilkins…
3. British foods in France – how to get a taste of home when you might have one of those cravings that expats sometimes do!…
4. How to be an Au Pair in France, a look at what being an au pair entails and top tips and advice with the help of a Paris Au Pair Association…

I’ll be in London this week for the UK’s biggest show about France (The France Show). I’ll be catching up with old friends like Carol Drinkwater (The Olive Series) and looking at what’s new for visits to France, food, practical information and any great offers to pass on to you all.

Have a lovely week,

A bientôt
