Everything You Want to Know About France and More...

Bon weekend from a very early morning in France

Bonjour

Hope you had a great week.

This morning I was up way before the sun rose. I couldn’t sleep, I have no idea why, I’m off to Paris next week so perhaps it’s excitement! I made a cup of tea and headed out the garden to my little office in the pigsty to do a bit of writing in peace and quiet.

At 04.30 it was pitch black, a quarter moon didn’t give much light but the stars twinkled like diamonds in a black velvet bag. An owl hooted in my neighbour’s barn, irritated that I’d put a light on to find my way across the garden. Another owl replied, no doubt agreeing that I was inconsiderate. Pheasants made weird croaking noises in the hedges and flapped their wings nervously. Moths flew in and out of the beams of light.

Brad Pitt and George Clooney became very excited when they saw me.

No, not the real Brad and George, my two new cockerels! Any form of light means sun up for them even if it’s just a torch. Their hollering set Kendo Nagasaki and Gregory Peck, the older cockerels off. Then the geese started, running around like they’d seen a ghost. Samson and Delilah, the feisty ducklings waddled about squeaking. Pierre the farmer’s cows in the field at the bottom of the garden moo’d. Next door, Marie-Therese’s pigmy goats baa’d.

My cats came running up to see what the noise was all about. I almost trod on a hedgehog that had fallen asleep in one of the cat food bowls and let out a screech. Fat Cat jumped a foot in the air at that. The girl cats followed me into the pigsty and made themselves comfortable. Shadow on my desk, Fat Cat on my feet, Loulou on my lap. Winston decided to stay outside with Little Boy and watch the garden waking up.

Did I say peace and quiet? All I was missing was a marching band at this stage.

There’s nothing I like better than writing and sharing my trips and tips with you and I hope you enjoy this week’s features. I’m busy finalising the winter issue of The Good Life France Magazine. Make sure you don’t miss it because there are some terrific articles, recipes and competitions coming up. Subscribe for free via the Autumn issue below…

Wishing you a very bon weekend,
Bisous from France,
