DFDS partnered with LD Lines to start a new Dover-Calais route from 17 February 2012. They added more ships to the route. This ended the monopoly for P&O Ferries who had been left the sole operators of the Dover-Calais ferry route following the demise of Sea France at the end of 2011.
Many ex Sea France staff were rehired and the enterprise has had the full support of the French Government.
