An official report from a French Government agency (direction générale de la compétitivité de l’industrie et des services) shows that 2011 saw a surge in the number of foreign tourists visiting France. A grand total of 81.4 million visitors were recorded entering France – either on holiday, business or in transit.
Almost 3.5 million visitors came from the US, up on previous years. The continuing trend of tourists from China was still evident though only accounts for a little over a million visitors. The vast majority of visitors continue to be from Europe with the UK continuing its enduring love of all things French – a whopping great 68 million Europeans visited France last year.
