Everything You Want to Know About France and More...

NEWSLETTER 6th March 2012

Bonjour!

Well it’s definitely carnival time here and I went to the Dunkirk Festival in February – it was a totally mad one.  There were tens of thousands of people there and most of the men were dressed as women – not a pretty sight I can tell you!  If they weren’t dressed as women they were dressed as animals, birds, Scotsmen – you name it they thought of an outfit to illustrate it!  The women dressed in as many gaudy colours as they could – and pink feather boas  must have sold out in Dunkirk and surrounding regions I think. Everyone promenaded around the town, there was lots of traditional music played, songs sung and generally everyone was just really happy and friendly and the giants of the North smiled down on us all.  At the end of the day we all conga’d down to the Belfry in the town and the Mayor chucked a load of herring off the top of the tower at the crowd – bizarre! I’ll remind you that its coming up next year- you might want to join in!

Other things coming up in the Pas-de-Calais region include the Le Touquet car rally 16th and 17th March, The Scarecrow Festival for the month of April in Moringhem near St Omer and the World Kite Festival in Berck-sur-Mer – I’ll be going to all three of these events and will update you on how they went.

At this time of the year it seems there’s something going on every week in whatever region of France you happen to be in – they really do love an excuse to party here, it’s one of the things that I love about the French. If there’s an area you’re going to and want to know what’s on – drop me a line and I’ll find out for you or check our Whats On in France page – we’re adding to it every week as we get more details.

Thanks for reading our newsletter and visiting our site – please pass me on to all your friends and family – the more the merrier!

A bientôt
Janine
