france newsletter

First of all a big welcome to all of our new subscribers to The Good Life France Newsletter and of course a big welcome back to all of you who’ve been subscribing for a while – we very much appreciate it.

The sun is out in France and memories of the cold, long drawn out late spring are fading as everyone is enjoying the joie de vivre of life and none more so than me!  I’ve been out and about all over northern France in the last few weeks. Even though I live here it never ceases to surprise me just how much there is to see and do – from beautiful coastal resorts to wonderful towns and cities like Lille – my current favourite!

I took the photo above on the Opal Coast road between Calais and Boulogne, a lovely meandering little road that takes in charming and picturesque villages, beautiful beaches, wonderful little cafés and restaurants and fishermen selling the day’s catch from their cottages. Just get off the ferry at Calais, or the train just outside – turn off the A16 and on to the D940 coastal road for a completely different taste of France…

Paola Westbeek – our reigning Queen of French Cuisine has been in the kitchen and has come up with some great summer recipes: Soupe de Poisson  – a delicious spicy fish soup, and white chocolate cream and fresh red berry coulis – so simple to do and delicious to eat!

Margo Leszt who lives in Nice joined our growing team of writers and gives her views on the former Royal playground (we love her little quirky drawings)…

Julia Browne, Paris expert told us about the history of Jazz in Paris – it’s one of those “Well I never knew that” expression invoking articles!

The Paris Wedding Expert – Kimberley Petyt, author of The Paris Wedding, told us all about croquembouche – the wonderful towering traditional wedding cake of France…

Roger St Pierre visited Herault – the laid back chill out zone of the French Riviera

We looked at:

The Top 5 hiking trails of the Pyrénées and gorgeous places to stay while you’re there

Myths about French people – no they don’t all wear berets!

I visited the Louvre-Lens – the new wing of the Paris Louvre. Absolutely nothing like its City cousin but also absolutely wonderful – open less than a year but it has great soul…
