Gourmet influence
Fauchon L’Hôtel Paris takes its name from a famous local merchant. August Fauchon who sold products from Normandy here at the end of the 1800s. He set up his business hawking goods in front of the church of La Madeleine, catching church goers as they came out of the service on a Sunday. He was very successful and opened a shop (now closed) on the same block, selling the very best luxury food produce from foie gras to fragrant teas, jewel-like cakes, cheeses, charcuterie, and chocolate.
August may be gone, but the spirit of Fauchon lives on in the hotel that takes his name. A unique feature of the hotel is the food, every room comes with a selection of French goodies that you can take home if you can resist feasting on them during your stay. There’s also a gourmet restaurant and fabulous tearoom. It is in fact Paris’ first Gourmet Hotel.
The rooms at the Fauchon L’Hôtel Paris
The hotel opened in 2018 after extensive rehabilitation and the merging of two Haussmannian former apartment blocks with shops on the ground floor. Now 33 rooms and 21 suites are fabulously and elegantly decorated. Every room has a mini bar like none I’ve ever seen before. In fact, to call it just these works of art a mini bar is a sin – they are like versions of the most glamorous wardrobe steamer trunk you can possibly imagine, metallic pink, mirrors, and wow factor galore. Complete with fridge and shelving to showcase the delicious goodies and snacks, they certainly give you mini bar envy. Featuring elegant, muted tones in the room, the decor is punctuated by splashes from Fauchon’s colour palette of vibrant cherry pink, gold and black.
Every room has a robe and slippers, excellent tea and coffee facilities, wonderful views (including a suite overlooking the Eiffel Tower), and glorious bathrooms with exquisite toiletries. My soothingly calm room had a huge bathroom just made for pampering yourself, though if you want to do that, there is also a state-of-the-art gym and spa (which incidentally is open to non-residents if you’re in need of a great massage), perfect if you indulge in a session with the hotel’s cultural running coach.
Take a guided run along the Champs-Elysées, past the Louvre Museum and the Eiffel Tower and along the quays of the Seine. It’s another feature of this hotel that makes it so unique and special. I have to admit I walked the route (it was a hot day!), and the hotel is in the most fabulous location for visiting the major sites in the heart of Paris.
They also have a wonderful romantic themed stay, perfect for marriage proposals or to celebrate love, it includes a photo session in one of the city of love’s most romantic places, beauty session, Champagne and much more – irresistibly dreamy.
Unique and cultural
More than ten contemporary artists are featured in the hotel’s art collection, ranging from Giles Miler for the mosaics in the Grand Café Fauchon, to François Mascarelo’s mural and Ingo Maurer’s jewels in the Jardin des Thés, referring to the historical location of the House of Baccarat glass shop which used to be based here.
There are a range of special themed offers. A private tour of the former royal wine caves at the Louvre, once the palace of French Kings, aperitif picnic boxes and beauty treatments.
From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel cosseted, perfectly pampered and totally spoiled. Everyone is offered a welcome cocktail and macarons -flavoured according to the season and made by the Hotel’s patisserie chef – which are served in the pretty library while you register. The rooms are gorgeous. And the suites are jaw-droppingly lovely.
The restaurant
From afternoon tea in the exquisite Jardin des Thés (the cakes are irresistible), to aperitifs on the terrace (the Glam’Hour, Gourmet Happy Hour – cocktails, fine wines and sophisticated canapés are very Emily in Paris), in the shadow of the famous La Madeleine Church, a stunning building which was commissioned by Napoleon Bonaparte – there are so many perfect moments. The Grand Café Fauchon gourmet restaurant which has both indoor and outside seating is popular with the locals as much as guests, and has a great range of dishes – plus a fabulous ice cream trolley!
