Day time Paris
Paris is a city to wander and discover, from grand boulevards and avenues to narrow streets and secret squares. A place of grand monuments and hidden beauty, more than 100 museums, fabulous shops and markets, flea markets and antique stores, the lovely river Seine and boat rides, Paris Plage – the city’s summer beach, the Eiffel Tower, Gothic churches, beautiful cathedrals, terrace cafés and gourmet restaurants…
The stairs of Montmartre. Millions have climbed these stairs, marvelling at the view, the climb, being in Paris and being here…
The clock of the Musée d’Orsay – a former train station (Gare d’Orsay) turned museum in Paris. The architect responsible for the conversion, Jean Philippon, also turned an art deco swimming pool into a museum in Roubaix, near Lille. The clock has become one of the best loved features – whether you are looking at the front of it or the back….
Talking of train stations – Gare du Nord has got to be one of the most well-known stations in France if not Europe. Following a clean-up in recent years, the wonderful facades once again draw compliments as travellers arrive and depart from this station, the busiest in Europe with some 190m users each year.
Louvre – The biggest museum in Paris and home to the Mona Lisa (AKA La Joconde) “the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the most sung about, the most parodied work of art in the world.” It has been a museum since 1793 but before that it was the home of Kings.
Night time Paris
The Eiffel Tower – iconic, legendary and beloved. Nothing says Paris quite like the Eiffel Tower and yet it was almost never built as it met with such strong resistance. Then when it was built, it was almost scrapped. How glad we all are that it is still here and provides us with such a fabulous landmark. Beautiful by day and with such a beautiful evening coat of lights.
Night Time Louvre – simply stunning…
Ile de La Cite, one of two remaining natural islands in the Seine within the city of Paris (the other being the Île Saint-Louis).
