Everything You Want to Know About France and More...

Fête de la Musique France

The Fête de la Musique is held on 21 June and takes place all over France.

It always takes place on the day of the summer solstice and features free music concerts throughout France.

The Fête de la Musique is open to any participant be they amateur or professional musicians who wish to perform in this joyful event.

All the participating musicians are asked to perform for free, and all of the concerts are free to the public. The vast majority of performances are open air – in streets and parks and in public buildings – museums, train stations, shops and chateaus. There is music of every kind and genre, from individuals, bands to major music institutions  such as orchestra, operas and  choirs.

The initiative was launched in 1982 by the French Ministry for culture and now the Fête de la Musique is held in more than hundred countries in Europe and over the world.

Check with local tourist offices for times, venues and details and for those in Paris there will be concerts of every musical genre taking place all over the City.
