France hosts Kite Festival

There’s a little town near where I live called Berck-sur-Mer.

Its a lovely little seaside resort in Pas-de-Calais, glorious beaches, never overcrowded even in the height of summer and despite the fact that its next to Le Touquet – the little Monaco of the north of France which is hugely popular with Parisians, locals and overseas tourists.

Each year the town hosts one of the best kite festivals in the world. It usually takes place in April. Teams from all over the world head to the vast sandy beach and compete to become champion of the kites.

There sight of thousands of kites flying on a sunny day is magical. The first time I went to the festival I had no idea what to expect. As we drove through the little town, I started to spot objects in the sky. As we got closer, I saw that the sky was absolutely full of flying fish, animals and characters of all sorts. If you see it once, you’ll always long to return. And don’t forget to visit the little town with its friendly cafes and bistros, famous sweet shop and a very good museum…
