For a taste of luxury in the very heart of Paris, the 5 star Hotel de Sers in a former nobleman’s home is just about perfect.

Hotel de Sers Paris

A stone’s throw from the Champs-Elysées, next to the legendary George V and less than a mile from the Eiffel Tower – it has the location, the looks and the luxury without the massive price tag to go with them. It certainly isn’t a budget hotel but with prices for two at less than 300 euros a room in this part of Paris, for this quality – it’s a real find.

hotel-de-sers-parisThe hotel was the former home of the Marquis de Sers whose family managed to escape the terrors of the French Revolution. The Marquis loved to wine and dine his friends in his Paris home and the ground floor was turned over to his horses. After a stint as offices it became a hotel in the 1930s and a recent renovation has left it looking very buff indeed.

The former stables and carriage entrance is now a beautiful lobby area. The suites and rooms are of the highest quality and the lovely covered terrace dining room in the inner courtyard is an oasis of tranquillity. On fine days the roof can be retracted so there’s a touch of summer living in the heart of the city.

It’s the sort of place where the staff remember your name, it has a feel-good ambience and it’s friendly as well as luxurious. What it isn’t is intimidating, as some 5 star hotels can be, and it isn’t overly formal so that you feel you have to dress up to go to the bar. It is stylish and smart, the décor is elegant and inspired with a real touch of old school style glamour. I really loved the lighting and the library and chill out area with useful work stations, really elegant and perfect French interior design in bucket loads. The spa there is open to residents only, after a long day’s sightseeing, it’s a real pick me up to be able to have a sauna and a massage. There are lots of little luxury touches, like iPads in the rooms for guests to use, fluffy robes and towels.

Most of the rooms have terraces and glass conservatories where you can sit and look out over the roof tops of Paris whatever the weather; the top apartment has a big terrace with a view over the Eiffel Tower. I sat out on my terrace after a long day of sightseeing with a glass of Champagne and listened to the muted sounds of the city, watching the beacon from the Eiffel Tower point its light filled finger across the sky, it was very romantic and I fell completely under the spell of Paris and the Hotel de Sers.

The hotel restaurant is really popular with guests and visitors, in fact many people return on the basis of the fab food alone!

The beds are uber comfortable, the bathrooms are wonderful and have delicious products, and the breakfast is superb. I really loved that I could ask any of the desk staff for tips on where to go and what to see and they were so helpful, especially the concierge who seems to know everything and everyone!

The Hotel de Sers is just a few minutes from the metro George V, this place is so central you can get anywhere in Paris easily but inside its calm and restful, a lovely touch of luxury in Paris.
