Everything You Want to Know About France and More...

Bonnes intentions newsletter from France

We had a very quiet Christmas with our furry and feathered family this year – the birds got treats, the dogs got bones, and the cats got to sit on me most of the day as I read and made notes for the books I am writing – a romance (set in France of course!), and a guide book to Paris (and a huge thank you if you shared your no. 1 Paris favourite on my Facebook page, totally inspiring. If you haven’t and want to share your treasured Paris pick, you can comment here: Facebook.com/thegoodlifefrance).

It’s that time of the year when many of us think about new year’s resolutions – though most of my French neighbours call it a rather civilised bonnes intentions rather than bonnes resolutions. I intend for instance, to eat less cakes but then again 6 January is the day when we all eat galette des rois cakes here in France so that’s a possible fail before the start date! (You can read about the history of galettes des rois in The Good Life France Magazine – it’s free!).

I saw an Instagram post the other day and it read along the lines of ‘as you get older the window of opportunity starts to close – make your new year’s resolutions count.’ Gulp. We all know this of course, but most of the time we’re too busy dealing with the daily issues of life to take it on board. But for some reason that resonated with me and made me think of something I’ve wanted to do for years – walk in snowy mountains. So in a few weeks’ time, I’m going to hop on a train, go across France to the Isère region – my first time in the French Alps in winter – and hopefully find some snow to walk in and make a snow angel! (You can come with me here: Instagram/thegoodlifefrance).

Whatever your new year’s goals, plans, resolutions – or intentions – are, I wish you a joyful, peaceful and happy new year from my little corner in the middle of nowhere, rural northern France.
